Warehouse District
Houston, TX | 4 Story Wood Construction over Steel Podium
The Warehouse District project consists of two sites separated by McKee Street designed to respect and reinterpret the site’s historic character, drawing from the original brick façade and industrial context. Varied materials and building forms break down the overall scale, creating the impression of a structure that evolved over time, while a defining sawtooth roof—once unique to the original building—is reintroduced along the highway frontage as a nod to its history.
The design responds to complex site constraints, including floodplain requirements that informed a comprehensive floodproofing strategy and the need to navigate existing powerline easements. A steel podium with integrated firewall separation supports the structure above, while historic rail tracks are woven into the landscape and designated art panels provide a canvas for local street art, reinforcing a
connection to the area’s industrial roots and creative culture.
